felt pen

A coloured marker... in NSW we called them textas: Can I borrow your felt pens? Also, felt.

Contributor's comments: [Perth informant] I've always been under the impression that a felt pen was an undeletable marker pen like an Artline not a normal texta.

Contributor's comments: As a child in Brisbane in the 1970s we used the term 'neos' or 'neo magics', but I haven't heard this term for years. I only hear felt pens now.

Contributor's comments: In Sydney they were textas, in Brisbane, nikkos.

Contributor's comments: They are called Textas in Tasmania too.

Contributor's comments: In SA they were called "textas". I always understood Texta to be a brand name of the generic felt tip pen (a bit like "hoover" being used as a name for a vacuum cleaner).

Contributor's comments: Growing up in Brisbane, we always considered felt pens and Nikkos to be quite different things, felt pens were regularly required at school and were thin multi-coloured pens for colouring in, while a Nikko would rarely be given to children and generally came only in black, blue and red.
