A small mullet: We used poddy mullet for bait.
Contributor's comments: Back in the early 1970's I often used poddy mullet for bait when fishing with my neighbours. At the time, we lived in Wollongong, but I first heard the term used by my friend's father who grew up in Queensland before moving to Wollongong. I really don't know whether he imported this usage from Queensland or whether it was common in the Wollongong area.
