usually added to the end of a word to emphasise meaning: No lah..would stress NO!! or It is far lah..meaning it is a long long way away.
Contributor's comments: This is actually a Singaporean affectation and you will notice it when people speak Singlish. I noticed that Perth people were starting to adopt it in the 90's, possibly due to the large number of Singaporean students at the universities.
