Contributor's comments: I, too, grew up in Perth (b. 1950), living in East Victoria Park and Wembley Downs -- NEVER heard the term "nature strip", only "verge" or "street lawn" (Remember the Keep Off -- Reg Lawn" signs? I never found out who that Reg bloke was.
