Buscallisation

Buscallisation is the unintentional process of mispronouncing or distorting a word or combination of words, to produce a totally new word which has little or no meaning, except in the context in which it was created. The Buscallisation process usually occurs unintentionally during verbal conversations. Young children are prolific Buscallisers especially when they attempt to pronounce or recall long or multi-syllabic words, however some adults can also produce the occasional Buscallisation. Some examples: "ombelette" instead of omelette; "apostle" sounding the silent "t" instead of apostle; "agamenment" instead of armageddon; "orchester" instead of orchestra. The word is regional slang, however I'm unaware of a formal word of the same meaning. My children use this word often whenever they hear someone mispronounce a word. I understand it is named after an ex-teacher who was proned to use the odd Buscallisation when speaking. Interestingly the word Buscallisation is itself a Buscallisation of the word Bastardisation: "Dicshunry" is a Buscallisation of the word dictionary.
